About
Growing up in my family of strong independent women, I was exposed to a different reality when I came into high school and started taking initiatives to design community outreach leadership projects. During these many adventures, I saw a paradoxically different world where women were denied and ignorant about their own rights, forget about competing at an equal footing with men at workplace or in community for social respect and financial independence.
It was as if we, the privileged women and girls, live in a bubble of change and modernity, where as the real India was a 180 degree opposite reality. Three things that stood out starkly missing in the real world of young women and girls in the real india were: 1.regressive patriarchy based social norms that prevented basic access to education, 2.diet and nutrition, and 3.health and hygiene.

That was the genesis of makingHERstory.
We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
Our Mission
makingHERstory is a student volunteer platform that is committed to championing the cause of our demographic dividend (promoting the concept of girl capital) through a more just and fair and gender-equal world. Most many challenges that are staring at the world today could be attributed to the unequal status of women which is sustained through deep-rooted, regressive norms of a patriarchal society. Sadly, as history bears testimony, the Covid-19 pandemic exposed these fault lines more than ever, with girls and women disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, from the additional burden of work, to their health, security and social safety, and not the least their income generating opportunities.
Our Vision
Inspired by these events, makingHERstory was incorporated to do three things: raise awareness in both the beneficiary network and the peer high-school changemakers network; organise volunteering opportunities to address systemic change in these deep-rooted social norms; and, inspire creative problem solving through design of integrated intervention in partnership with advocacy and industry.
